Spring may generally arrive with unsettled gusto, but at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, it’s ushered in with four extraordinary bottles far more gratefully received. The latest release in the Society’s Creators Collection, titled Whispers of Spring: A Journey of Reawakening, is an invitation to rediscover the season through whisky that is refined, rare, and evocative.
Available exclusively to SMWS members, Whispers of Spring celebrates the lighter, more delicate side of whisky – think floral meadows, citrus groves, and warming sun.
Each of the four whiskies in the collection is an aged single cask or small-batch expression, matured in refill wood to allow the distillery’s natural character to shine through, between 27 and 35 years.

First look at SMWS’s rare new whisky flight
According to Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at SMWS, the release is designed not just for technical admiration but for pure sensory enjoyment. “Sometimes it’s fun to explore the technical and process side of whisky,” he says. “And sometimes it’s best to let the whisky take you to a time and place and simply revel in sheer enjoyment. Our Whispers of Spring bottles do just that.”
Here’s a closer look at each bottle in the set:
Cask No. 50.120 – Dawn’s Embrace, £325 Originally scattered across 13 ultra-low-volume casks, this 34 year old spirit was vatted and matured further in five refill barrels, allowing complexity to flourish. The result is an intriguing blend of delicate oak, vanilla and honeyed sweetness. The ABV is 53.4%.
Cask No. 94.51 – Verdant Reawakening, £199 From a distillery celebrated for its unique cooling ring distillation method (Distillery 94 on the SMWS distillery list), Verdant Reawakening is said to be a sweet and fruity expression that presents orchard fruits, fresh cut grass and citrus zest. This 27 year old is bottled at 55.8% ABV.
Cask No. 72.125 – Blossom Reverie, £245 A light and delicate profile helps this 29 year old whisky to truly live up to its name. Official tasting notes speak of golden syrup, honeycomb and milk chocolate biscuits. Particularly indulgent, we think.
Cask No. 105.55 – Crepuscular Complexity, £375 The crown jewel of the release, Crepuscular Complexity is a 35-year-old rarity with an intoxicating profile. On the nose you can expect old Riesling, calvados, peaches and cream, with spiced oranges in syrup on the palate. Just 122 bottles are available, so this is the bottle that seasoned collectors will doubtless covet. ABV is 46.2%.

Mystery Malt has returned for its sixth instalment, and according to its creators at Thompson Brothers, it is the biggest release yet. The concept remains delightfully simple: every whisky bottle looks identical, costs the same £65, and arrives concealed beneath a tamper-proof capsule.
