Technics has unveiled the SL-1210MKX, a new upper-tier professional direct-drive DJ turntable that builds on more than five decades of SL-1200 heritage. Positioned above the current SL-1210MK7, the newcomer has been developed with input from working DJs and sound engineers, with a focus on stability, precision and creative flexibility.
The launch comes as vinyl remains a vital part of club culture and performance practice. From headline festival stages to specialist turntablist showcases, DJs continue to rely on the tactile control and musical connection that vinyl provides.
Technics says the SL-1210MKX has been engineered specifically to meet the challenges posed by these environments, including powerful sound systems, heavy bass, structural vibration and long operating hours.

Inside the Technics SL-1210MKX
At the heart of the new model is a significantly heavier and more carefully balanced chassis, said to improve resistance to external vibration. Technics has also developed new isolation feet that combine effective feedback suppression with the firm, predictable feel required by scratch and performance DJs.
These refinements help the turntable remain stable in bass-heavy venues where acoustic feedback can become a challenge.
One of the most notable additions is a new pitch control system. For the first time in the history of the SL-1200 series, the SL-1210MKX introduces a dedicated ±4 per cent pitch range. This narrower adjustment band allows for finer resolution and more precise beatmatching when tracks are already closely aligned in tempo.
Alongside this, Technics has introduced a new ±50 per cent pitch range, significantly expanding the possibilities for creative mixing, dramatic tempo manipulation and experimental performance techniques. The combination gives DJs greater control at both ends of the spectrum, whether they require minute adjustments or more radical transformations.
The deck also incorporates a range of established Technics technologies and professional features. These include the company’s coreless direct-drive motor, adjustable start-up torque, adjustable brake speed, reverse play capability and 78rpm support. A redesigned reset switch has been engineered to operate more quietly, while a polished silver tonearm paired with a black finish provides a visual nod to the legendary SL-1200MK2.
The launch coincides with the 55th anniversary of the SL-1200 series. Since its debut in 1972, the turntable has become one of the most influential pieces of audio equipment in music culture, helping shape genres ranging from disco and hip-hop to house and techno. The new model’s designation reflects its ambitions, with Technics stating that the “X” stands for ‘Extreme’ and ‘Expert’, referencing both the environments in which it operates and the professionals it is designed to serve.
The Technics SL-1210MKX will be available from January 2027, priced at £1,299 (€1,499).
