Release No. 37: The Last Drop 27-Year-Old Kentucky straight bourbon (Buffalo Trace Distillery), $10,500 (includes 700ml bottle & 50ml miniature)
One of the oldest bourbons ever released by Buffalo Trace, this expression marries three meticulously selected barrels distilled in 1995, 1996, and 1997. The whiskey was nurtured in Warehouse P, where it developed its exceptional character under the watchful eye of Master Blender Drew Mayville and Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley.
508 bottles of this bright bronze-gold liquid are now available worldwide, bottled at 60.9% ABV. Tasting Notes by Drew Mayville, report rich aromas of seasoned oak, cherry, Medjool dates, baking spices, and hints of peppery rye on the nose, with layers of caramel sweetness, dark chocolate-dipped cherries, over a foundation of oak tannins, tobacco, and supple leather, on the palate. The finish is said to be lingering and complex, with balancing dried fruit, caramel, and a tingling oak spice.
Release No. 38: The Last Drop 55-Year-Old single malt Scotch (Tomintoul Distillery), $6,950 (750ml bottle)
A sister cask to 2024’s Release No. 36, this remarkable single malt was distilled in April 1969 and spent its long maturation in a combination of ex-sherry butts and refill sherry hogsheads. For its final two years, it was married in an ex-Matusalem Sherry butt to enhance idepth and complexity. Bottled at 43.1%, there are 430 bottles available.
According to Colin Scott, Master Blender, The Last Drop Distillers, this deep amber expression presents red fruits, ripe peaches, toasted almonds, and warm toffee on the nose, and flavours of stone fruits, baking spices, grassy dryness, and liquorice, culminating in pineapple upside-down cake and rich caramel. The finish is said to be smooth and lingering, balancing sweet and spicy notes.
Release No. 39: The Last Drop 22-Year-Old Japanese blended malt whisky, $5,500 (750ml bottle)
Crafted from two rare casks of 100 per cent Japanese malt whisky distilled in 2000, the year Hanyu Distillery ceased operations, this exotic, golden-hued, blend was matured in coveted Mizunara oak, imparting its signature floral, herbal, and nutty nuances. Bottled at 59.1% ABV, only 319 bottles exist.
According to Helen Mulholland, Master Blender, Sazerac of Ireland, buyers can expect a mix of sandalwood, nutmeg, allspice, green wood, vanilla, and marzipan, on the nose, with tropical banana, coconut, and red berries on the palate.
The mouthfeel is silky while the finish provides a warming cinnamon pastry and sweet spice finale.
