Philips chose world renowned Abbey Road Studios to unveil the OLED+959, its latest flagship 4k TV. In studio Two, the very space where landmark recordings by The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Kate Bush were made, owner TP Vision showcased a television it hopes will become equally legendary.
The set, available only in a 65-inch screen size, bristles with advanced technology. It’s the first model from the brand to feature an 8th Gen P5 AI Dual Engine processor. It uses a high brightness META 2.0 OLED panel, has a cleverly integrated Bowers & Wilkins Dolby Atmos sound system and boasts advanced Ambilight Plus, for immersive room lighting effects. In short – it’s the ultimate son et lumière.
I was invited to Abbey Road for a closer look at the OLED+959, and left convinced that this is Philips‘ most impressive premium TV offering yet – it’s also the most stylish.

Boasting a sleek, distinctly European design, characterised by clean lines and minimalist detail, the OLED+959 can be wall-mounted, placed on AV furniture, or paired with an elegant, slate-coloured aluminium and steel stand.
The set may house a horde of speakers, but they’re all hidden beneath Kvadrat Audiomix fabric.
Adding to its premium feel, the remote control comes with USB-C and wireless charging, with backlighting and a simplified interface to enhance the user experience.
Need to stream? The OLED+959 runs the latest version of the Google TV OS, featuring a wide range of content and smart TV functionality.
To get a better idea of just how potent the new OLED panel is, Philips staged a shootout against rivals from Samsung and LG. The OLED595 was seen to offer better colour management, with more realistic skin tones, and less high brightness clipping, than competing models when viewed in high impact Crystal Clear and Vivid/Dynamic picture modes.
The sound system is also exceptional. The Bowers & Wilkins designed 5.1.2 audio setup features 18 drivers. There are front-firing left, centre, and right speakers (pictured above), along with up-firing Dolby Atmos height speakers. Total power output is a thumping 120W.
The TV got to strut its stuff with a sequence from Bladerunner 2049. The audio was big, bold and cinematic. If you want, you can add a subwoofer for even deeper bass.
The set isn’t just intended for home cinema fans. Gamers will appreciate the updated Game Bar, which now comes with Center Zoom, Edge Enhancer, Cross Hair, Colour Filter and Shadow Enhancer settings.
All four HDMI inputs support High Frame Rate gaming, including 144Hz VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) with Dolby Vision Gaming. Input lag is said to be 5ms on a 120Hz input.
From an interior design point of view, the new Ambilight Plus system is a wow. It employs bespoke light modules with multiple dome-shaped lenses that create a multi-dimensional halo effect behind the screen. With 192 zones, Ambilight Plus can project up to four different halos at varying depths, dynamically responding to on-screen motion.
In action, it’s really quite beautiful. You can also use Ambilight Plus to create a static, bias backlight, which helps reduce eyestrain when bingeing your favourite shows.
The Philips OLED+959 exemplifies what’s possible when state-of-the-art image processing, sophisticated audio engineering, and innovative lighting technologies converge. If you’re looking for a premium telly, this is definitely one to shortlist.
The Philips OLED+959 is available exclusively from Richer Sounds, priced at £3,999.
