With A Tale of Ice Cream, Glenmorangie’s whisky creators have crafted a whisky that promises to be as indulgent as a scoop of your favourite dessert…
Led by Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie has long been known for its experiments and inventive techniques. Dr Bill’s latest inspiration came from the world of ice cream. He wanted to translate the richness of ice cream flavours into whisky, creating a single malt that would embody the creamy, fruity, and decadent notes associated with a luxurious ice cream parlour.
Together with Master Blender Gillian Macdonald, Dr Bill embarked on a series of experiments to perfect the recipe. After blending Glenmorangie’s signature single malt, aged in bourbon casks, with whisky finished in specially toasted high-vanillin casks, the result was an expression that bursts with rich vanilla, fruity peach, and coconut flavours. The high-vanillin casks, used for the first time at Glenmorangie, proved integral to amplifying the whisky’s sweet, creamy profile.
Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream tasting notes
Bottled at 46% ABV and non-chill filtered, Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream delivers honey on the nose, followed by aromas of lemon-flavoured butter candy, peaches, candied orange peel, and a hint of spice. A splash of water is said to reveal layers of vanilla crème anglaise, coconut, and almond marzipan.
On the palate, the whisky is said to be thick, creamy, and rich. Think brioche, almond marzipan, honeycomb, and lemon sherbet, rounded out by a medley of warming spices. The finish lingers, with hints of toffee apple, sweet popcorn, and a touch of aniseed.
A Tale of Ice Cream is presented in a pastel-hued box that evokes the colours, textures, and whimsy of an old-fashioned ice cream parlour, complete with swirling designs that capture the essence of melting ice cream and drizzled toppings.
Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream is available online at Glenmorangie’s official website, at the Distillery Visitor Centre in Tain, as well as select retailers, priced at £76.
A limited number of A Tale of Ice Cream-themed lambswool sweaters, designed by Scottish knitwear artist Donna Wilson, will also be available exclusively at the Visitor Centre, a cosy complement to this indulgent release.

Mystery Malt has returned for its sixth instalment, and according to its creators at Thompson Brothers, it is the biggest release yet.
