Apple sends Killers of the Flower Moon back to cinemas after Oscar nominations

Apple is re-releasing the critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon, in theatres worldwide, in partnership with Paramount Pictures. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the movie, which is already available to stream on Apple TV+, is set to return to over 1,000 screens globally, from January 26.

In addition to landing 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon has also received nine BAFTA Film Award nominations.

For those who missed the initial cinematic run or those eager for a second viewing, Apple’s re-release in theatres offers a welcome chance to witness this cinematic milestone on the big screen once more.  

Widely hailed as a masterpiece, the film has garnered over 200 accolades and earned the title of the Best Film of the Year by prestigious entities such as the National Board of Review, which named star Lily Gladstone as Best Actress, Martin Scorsese as Best Director and Rodrigo Prieto for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography, as well as being named to the American Film Institute’s list of Motion Pictures of the Year.

Set against the backdrop of the early 20th century when the Osage Nation experienced a sudden influx of wealth due to oil discoveries, the narrative unfolds as newfound riches attract unscrupulous individuals who exploit, extort, and ultimately resort to murder. 

At the centre of the saga is the improbable romance between Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), where love intersects with unthinkable betrayal. The stellar cast also includes Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons.

Based on David Grann’s bestselling book and brought to life by Scorsese and screenwriter Eric Roth, the film sheds light on a dark chapter in American history, exploring themes of love, betrayal, and the clash between immense wealth and morality.

The film has not only swept the Oscars and BAFTA nominations but has also been celebrated by over 30 critics groups globally. The New York Times, The New Yorker, and the New York Film Critics Circle have all named it the Best Film of 2023, underscoring its universal acclaim.
