Orient Star adds two new Avant-Garde Skeleton watches to Sports collection

An Orient Star black dial Avant Garde Skeleton watch on a shiny surface

Orient Star, renowned for its dedication to the art of skeleton watches, has introduced two new Avant-garde additions to its Sports Collection. Notably, they feature Orient Star’s first automatic movement with a silicon escapement wheel, hailed as a significant advancement in watchmaking technology.

Two distinct designs are available, RE-AV0A02S and RE-AV0A03B. One accentuates the watch’s solid metallic feel with a metal bracelet crafted from the same material as the case. The other exudes a sporty vibe, combining a black-plated case and dial with a Cordura Ballistic Nylon strap.

Orient Star’s Avant-garde Skeleton models have consistently garnered attention for their dynamic designs and bold openwork.

These made-in-Japan watches hold an understandable fascination for aficionados of horology.

The precision-moulded openwork dial immediately captures attention. Its complex two-layer layout seamlessly integrates with the movement. The upper plate, adorned with indices, boasts a distinct colour and finish compared to the lower plate, offering protection against shocks and deformations. The seconds hands are strategically placed to stand out, adding depth and dimension to the skeleton structure.

To ensure every facet of the design is clearly visible, the watch features SAR-coated sapphire crystal glass, reducing light reflection by an impressive 99%.

Complementing the skeleton design of these new models is a caliber F8F64 automatic  (with hand winding) movement, featuring a silicon escapement wheel. The movement stands out with its Geneva stripes on the surface and a partially hollowed-out base plate, revealing a blue silicon escapement wheel near the 6 o’clock position.

We’re told this innovation stems from proprietary high-precision manufacturing technology, developed by parent Epson.

Consequently, the caliber F8F64 boasts a 60-hour power reserve, a first for Orient Star’s automatic movements. It also guarantees high accuracy, ranging from +15 seconds to -5 seconds per day, significantly enhancing practical performance.

The watches are housed within stainless steel cases and bezels, featuring brushed finishes. The mirror finish, achieved through Sallaz polishing, adds an elegant accent.

The Orient Star Avant Garde Skeleton (RE-AV0A02S), with silver dial, sells for £990. The black dial RE-AV0A03B sells for £1,200.
