Bowers & Wilkins to supply immersive sound system for Aston Martin DB12 Super Tourer

Bowers & Wilkins have been announced as Aston Martin’s official audio partner, with news that the incoming Aston Martin DB12 sports car will feature a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, powered by 1,170W of amplification.

The two engineering teams have worked closely together to deliver a bespoke system for the eagerly awaited ‘Super Tourer.’

The DB12 was launched during the Cannes International Film Festival, spearheading Aston Martin’s next generation of sports cars.

Offered as an option for the first time ever in an Aston Martin, the B&W system features 15 loudspeakers, a 14-channel amplifier and proprietary sound processing technology.

Located in the dashboard, doors and behind the B-pillar, are five Nautilus Aluminium Double Dome tweeters, derived from the iconic Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus loudspeaker. Spiralling diffusion channels soak up reflected sound from the rear of each tweeter drive unit.

Positioned in close proximity to the tweeters, are five silver-finish 100mm Continuum mid-range drivers, tuned for a superior listening experience in the cabin for all occupants.

The brand’s characteristic Tweeter-on-Top technology is used in the DB12 to minimise acoustic reflection from the windscreen, directing sound directly at the occupants. Three mounted tweeters sit on the dashboard of the DB12, to improve clarity.

Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President & Chief Creative Officer at Aston Martin, said: “In this new dawn of our next generation sportscars, precisely crafted couture-level interiors are crucial to the delivery of a totally immersive, emotional, human experience. The pure sound of our engines alone already delivers visceral emotions and sensations.

“Now, with the addition of truly perforating sound being delivered so clearly through the newly developed audio system, we’ve harmonised our interior designs with new innovation and tech, so our drivers feel the energy, feel the calm, feel the luxury, all at once.”
