Good news for home baristas. Premium Italian home appliance brand Smeg has launched its first bean-to-cup coffee machine. The BCC02 is reassuringly compact, but it’s not short of the features needed to brew the perfect cup o’ java.
Whatever your coffee style, a soft touch control selects different strengths and levels. A primary and secondary menu can serve ristretto coffee, espressos and americanos, or simply deliver hot water. If lattes, macchiatos or cappuccinos are more your thing, frothy milk can be produced at the touch of a button.
The BCC02’s design is distinctly Smeg, but boasts a more contemporary finish, thanks to a brushed aluminium and matte exterior. It’s already the winner of a 2021 Good Design Award, we’re told.

It’s frothy man
The one touch menu grinds and prepares coffee beans instantly, while a Thermablock system heats water in a matter of seconds. A handy 1.4L capacity can produce up to six cups of coffee, before refilling; the cup holder and nozzle height are adjustable too, so all mugs are catered for.
To help manage descaling, an alarm sounds when a little TLC is required. You can also adjust settings based on your area’s water hardness.
A refreshing blend of modern minimalism and high-end design, the Smeg BCC02 Bean to Cup coffee machine is available in a choice of stylish finishes: Matte Black, Matte Taupe, Matte White and Matte Red. It sells for £679.95 at Smeg’s online shop.
