The evocatively titled Pineapple Bananza is the latest addition to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s experimental Heresy range; it’s a small-batch Irish single malt whiskey created in collaboration with Dunville’s Irish Whiskey.
Batch 38: Pineapple Bananza stands out for both its origin and production style. Irish whiskey is an infrequent guest in the Society’s portfolio, and this latest release is likely to draw interest from members keen to explore beyond Scotch.
Pineapple Bananza is a triple-distilled Irish single malt, a process said to contribute to a smoother, fruit-forward spirit; here it underpins what the Society describes as a full-bodied, tropical profile.
Distilled April 30 2014 and aged for 10 years, the whiskey is bottled at 50% ABV.
Maturation has taken place in a combination of first-fill bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, a pairing that contributes a tropical, confectionery-led profile.
