Absolut Vodka is toasting pop art this summer with the launch of the Absolut Haring Artist Edition, a tribute to the late Keith Haring, whose joyful, kinetic style helped shape the cultural pulse of 1980s New York.
Nearly 40 years after he first painted the Absolut bottle (thanks to a tip-off from Andy Warhol), Haring is back, his art as engaging as ever.
This collectable new Haring bottle captures the electric spirit of that original 1986 design, the artist’s trademark reds and yellows, framed by a vibrant crowd of dancing figures and capped with a hand-drawn version of the classic Absolut medallion. His signature is emblazoned across the sleeve.
Nearly 40 years after he first painted the Absolut bottle (thanks to a tip-off from Andy Warhol), Haring is back…
Haring, whose bold, cartoon-like figures became icons of 1980s pop art and street culture, came to prominence in the late ’70s, where he found inspiration in New York’s graffiti-covered subways and the vibrant downtown art scene.
Haring’s signature style – barking dogs, dancing figures, radiant babies – is instantly recognisable. He often used thick black lines, bright colours, and repetitive motifs to create energetic, accessible art that pulsed with life.
Haring believed art should be for everyone, not just gallery-goers. That’s why he drew chalk murals in subway stations and created over 50 public artworks, many for hospitals and schools.
The Absolut Haring Fizz
The Luxe Review was invited to the launch of this year’s Absolut Artist Edition, at Tayēr + Elementary, currently ranked fourth in the World’s 50 Best Bars.
The event, hosted by Deb Dasgupta, VP Global Marketing at Absolut, and Rae Gibson, Marketing Director Absolut, recounted the history of Absolut’s artistic legacy, which goes back to 1984 when the brand first commissioned Andy Warhol to create the Absolut Blue painting (recreated in last year’s Absolut Artist Edition bottle).
Absolut also crafted a bespoke cocktail for the launch: the Absolut Haring Fizz. The drink riffs on New York cool and Asian vibrancy with soda water and zesty orange and lemon sherbet, stopped with a velvety apple and ginger foam.
“Absolut has always believed that art should be open, joyful, and for everyone,” says Dasgupta. “Keith Haring’s work radiated that belief, full of energy, colour, and hope. With Absolut Haring, we’re inviting a new generation to celebrate that spirit.”
From subway walls to Duty-Free
