Winter is coming … to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, with the launch of a Winter Series featuring four bottles of limited-edition single malt whiskies that celebrate Halloween, Christmas, Hogmanay and Burns Night.
As is the case with all SMWS releases, fewer than 300 bottles will be made available of each expression. Each bottle also includes a QR code that leads to an immersive experience: a video of SMWS Tasting Panel Chair, Robin Laing, singing or narrating a story or poem about the related seasonal event.

The Winter Series from SMWS
The Winter Series promises something for every whisky drinker. The Halloween Bottle Supernaturally Sweet Smoke (Cask No. 53.483), is a peated whisky, aged 12 years in a 1st fill ex-PX hogshead. It’s said to have a deep smoky character, with sweet notes including spun sugar, plum jam, and maple-cured bacon. It’s priced at £92.
The Christmas Bottle Merry Christmas (Cask No. 121.110) has a rich, fruity flavour profile, aged 8 years in a 1st fill ex-sherry hogshead. Seasonal notes speak of dates, figs, and walnuts complemented by exotic hints of rum-soaked raisins. It sells for £63.
The Hogmanay Bottle Welcome in 2025 (Cask No. 39.305) has been aged 12 years in a 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel, and is sweet and mellow. It’s said to offer notes of lemon juice, red apple, and apricot Danish pastry.
Finally, the Burns Night Bottle Supper Sipper (Cask No. 88.31) has been aged 15 years in a 1st fill ex-PX hogshead. It reportedly evokes aromas of treacle tart and rocky road, with hints of mango and cranberry in the finish.
The full Winter Series is available now, priced £310. Individual bottles will be released each month through the winter.
