Premium cognac house Maison Courvoisier has teamed up with the acclaimed Chinese painter and artist, Jiannan Huang, to create an exclusive Lunar New Year trio of cognacs celebrating the Year of the Dragon.
As an artist born in the Year of the Dragon, Jiannan Huang has meticulously infused his expertise in enamel and traditional Chinese artistry into the creation of these remarkable cognac bottles.
The specially designed series includes the Courvoisier Year of the Dragon Blend, L’Essence, and XO, each telling a unique story that symbolises the auspiciousness and power associated with the mythical dragon.
The three-part collection embodies the spirit of the Year of the Dragon with Maison Courvoisier’s hallmark joie de vivre…
The Courvoisier Year of the Dragon Blend, the first in the collection, comprises a blend of eaux-de-vie from previous Dragon Years, some dating back to the last century. This 42% ABV cognac has been bottled in a crystal decanter by luxury manufacturer Baccarat. The artistic ceramic pedestal, exclusively crafted by Huang Jiannan Art, complements the blend, highlighting the teardrop shape associated with Courvoisier.
Chief Blender Thibaut Hontanx says, “The Borderies’ spiciness and floral notes are elegantly pronounced in this blend, catering to the Chinese palate’s deep appreciation for these flavours.”
The second release, L’Essence de Courvoisier, draws inspiration from Huang’s original dragon painting which adorns both the bottle and box. This limited edition comprises more than a hundred rare eaux-de-vie sourced from the most exclusive crus within the Cognac region, Grande Champagne and Borderies.
The final release, Courvoisier XO, pays homage to the dragon’s significance in Chinese culture. While the XO blend remains unchanged, the packaging features Huang’s striking dragon design in deep red, harmonising with its exclusive sister releases.
“This creative partnership with Maison Courvoisier has allowed me and my team to fuse enamel techniques and traditional Chinese art, enabling a remarkable canvas for storytelling. Together, we’ve created something truly enchanting that immerses cognac aficionados in the rich customs and festivities of Lunar New Year,” says Huang.
The limited edition L’Essence and XO releases sell for £3,000 and £135 respectively.
