Europe’s biggest pop culture festival returns to the medieval town of Lucca, Italy this October, with director Tim Burton confirmed as one of its star attractions.
The Lucca Comics & Games 2022, which runs October 28 – November 1, will host the European Fan Screening of the first episode of Wednesday, Burton’s eagerly awaited new Addams Family spin-off, starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. The show debuts on Netflix November 23.
Burton reinvigorated the Batman franchise with Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader, and was responsible for genre classics Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The five day festival will throw a spotlight on video games, fantasy TV, anime, manga, cosplay and art from around the world.
Video games pioneer Atari will also celebrate its 50th anniversary at the event, with founder Nolan Bushnell slated to attend. Bushnell is the creator of Pong which paved the way for the video games industry as we know it today.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary at the festival CD Projekt Red. Best known for The Witcher series of games, Cyberpunk 2077, and Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. The company will host a number of activities at Villa Bottini, the 16th-century palace located in the centre of Lucca.
The palace garden will serve as a portal to Toussaint, which players had the chance to explore in Blood & Wine, the second of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansions. Attendees can expect an immersive Witcher-themed treasure hunt, complete with role-playing professionals and cosplayers.
There will also be an exhibition showcasing rare artifacts spanning 20 years of the studio’s game-making history.

On October 28, at Palazzetto dello Sport, there will be a Witcher theme concert featuring performances from Fiesole’s Orchestra Giovanile Italiana (the Italian Youth Orchestra), and Polish folk metal band Percival Schuttenbach.
Toei Animation will also host the Italian premiere of One Piece Film: Red, in collaboration with Anime Factory. The event will feature Director Goro Taniguchi and Director of Animation Masayuki Sato.
The iconic Carducci Pavilion will feature over 150 exhibitors from the games world, including board games, role-playing games, miniatures and collectibles.
Fantasy illustrator John Blanche, and Canadian artist Ted Nasmith, known for his illustrations of J.R.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, will also exhibit.
