Ice and easy does it: Next-gen LG InstaView smart AI fridge looks cool, responds to voice control

LG has unveiled a new generation of high-performance InstaView Door-in-Door smart fridges, that combine high-tech style with advanced fresh food technology.

Headline specifications include proprietary UVnano technology, featured in the built-in water dispenser, and a larger glass panel for its InstaView Door-in-Door system.

This new InstaView window is 23 per cent larger than what we’ve seen on previous models, making it easier to glance at what’s inside.

InstaView illuminates the refrigerator’s interior with just two quick knocks on the transparent glass door, while Door-in-Door reduces interior cold air loss by providing a convenient space to keep frequently accessed items handy.

With a more immersive tinted glass panel, the 2021 refrigerator also boast a new sleek designer with a flat stainless steel design aesthetic.

First introduced in 2017, on LG’s top water dispenser products, UVnano operates once every hour to remove up to 99.99 percent of bacteria on the refrigerator’s dispenser tap. It can also be activated manually, when required.

InstaView voice recognition also promises to take hands-free convenience to a whole new level. Now commonplace on smart home speakers, from the likes of Amazon and Google, voice control is less frequently seen on larger kitchen appliances.

On these new models, owners can instruct “Open the refrigerator door,” or request the status of ice and water dispensers. The feature can also integrate with the Amazon Dash Replenishment system, making it easy to order replacement water filters once you’ve linked your Amazon account with the LG ThinQ smart home app.

Other high-tech features you can expect to see in LG’s 2021 InstaView refrigerator line-up  include LINEARCooling and DoorCooling+. LINEARCooling minimises temperature fluctuations, the main cause of food spoilage, while DoorCooling+ cools the entire refrigerator compartment evenly by distributing powerful airflow from a strategically positioned vent.

LG has also confirmed that its LG Craft Ice feature, able to create slow melting ice balls, is now coming to Side-by-Side InstaView refrigerators. It was first seen on the brand’s previous InstaView French-Door refrigerator range,

It’s not yet known at this point when these new InstaView fridges will become available in the UK or Europe. More news when we get it.

LG continues to push the envelope when it comes to design and technology of home appliances, recently launching a second generation Wine Cellar and a new combination washer/dryer WashTower.

The 2021 LG InstaView refrigerator lineup will be on display in LG’s virtual exhibition booth during CES 2021, from January 11. For the first time, CES, the world’s largest tech show, normally held in Las Vegas, will be presented online.
