NBCUniversal has extended its Video on Demand initiative, partnering with Virgin Media and BT to offer the studio’s new movie releases on the same day they would once have hit cinemas. The announcement mirrors a similar deal signed with Sky.
From April 6, Virgin Media subscribers and BT TV customers will be able to rent DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour, featuring the voice talents of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake and James Corden, on the day of its scheduled cinema release.
The Hunt, The Invisible Man and Emma from NBCUniversal have also been fast tracked to the Virgin Media Store and BT Film Store from today.
“In these challenging times, it’s great news for our customers that they won’t be missing out on the latest cinema releases,” says David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media.
The films can be rented from both outlets, priced at £15.99, for 48 hours. Expect this to become the new normal over the coming months.
