The Last Drop unveils 22 year old Barbados rum, Foursquare’s oldest release to date

The Last Drop Release No. 43 rum on a barrel

The Last Drop has unveiled a 22 year old Barbados rum created by Foursquare Distillery’s Richard Seale, marking two milestones for the independent spirits bottler and the celebrated Barbadian producer.

The Last Drop Release No. 43 is the brand’s first Rum Signature Creation, and notable as the oldest rum ever released by Foursquare. Just 566 individually numbered bottles will be made available.

The rum brings together more than two decades of maturation, Barbados rum-making heritage and a distinctive approach to cask management. Owner and distiller at Foursquare, Seale is a fourth-generation rum producer and a founding member of The Last Drop Assembly, the collective of spirits makers established to encourage collaboration and distinctive releases.

Seale has built Foursquare’s reputation through a combination of traditional production and technical precision, including the adaptation of the classic double-retort pot still to operate under vacuum.

Bottled by hand at Foursquare in April 2026, Release No. 43 is presented at 53% ABV. Each 700ml bottle is individually numbered and carries Seale’s signature, alongside a certificate of authenticity.

In the glass, the rum is described as deep mahogany in colour. Tasting notes report an aromatic opening of marzipan, fresh grapefruit zest, ripe plum and tropical guava, lifted by a hint of black liquorice.

The palate is fresh and generous, moving through dried mint and eucalyptus into ripe pineapple, tart redcurrant, treacle and baking spice. Dry tobacco leaf and clove carry through the finish. The resulting profile combines mature oak character with a lively range of fruit, spice and herbal notes.

The presentation includes a handcrafted wooden case and a 50ml miniature, so it’s possible to sample the rum before opening the bottle.

A 22-year maturation story

The project reflects a blend Seale had in mind for The Last Drop from the earliest days of his involvement with the Assembly.

The maturation programme reflects a considered approach to oak influence, with the casks given time to shape the spirit’s character.

“I had this 2004 blend in mind for The Last Drop from the earliest days of my involvement with The Last Drop Assembly,” says Seale. “It was a rum we believed would reward time, moving through a second ex-bourbon cask before a final three years in very old Port pipes. By 2025, it had become something exceptional.”

The distillery occupies the historic Foursquare estate in St Philip, Barbados, a site with centuries of sugar production and rum-making history.

The Last Drop Release No. 43 22 Year Old Barbados Rum Signature Creation is now available in limited quantities through Sazerac’s US and global distributor networks, priced at $1,700.

A limited supply will also be available through Legacy de Forge, a global platform powered by Blockbar.
