Brugal is bringing its Colección Visionaria series to a close with a limited-edition rum shaped by one of the Dominican Republic’s most familiar ingredients.
Created by fifth-generation Maestra Ronera Jassil Villanueva Quintana, Colección Visionaria Edición 03 Coconut is the final expression in a three-part collection that explores Dominican culture through ingredients and rum-making techniques.
Fore this final expression, fresh Dominican coconut is placed inside new French oak casks, which are then toasted before the coconut is removed. Brugal rum is subsequently aged in these specially prepared casks, the process allowing the oak to take on the influence of the coconut before contributing that character to the spirit during maturation.
“Colección Visionaria was born from a desire to capture the beauty of my home, through 100 per cent Dominican ingredients,” says Quintana. “For this final addition, I chose coconut because it is the rhythm of our island, from the shade of the palms to the ritual of coconut water shared among friends. In Colección Visionaria Edición 03, we have captured that warmth, creating a rum that is as much a tribute to our future as it is to our heritage.”
The result is bottled at 45% ABV and presented as a layered, tropical expression. Fewer than 35,000 bottles will be released worldwide, across just six batches. Each is hand sealed and personally signed by Quintana, with its batch number etched on the label.

In the glass, Colección Visionaria Edición 03 appears as a bright amber gold. The nose combines creamy vanilla and burnt sugar with notes reminiscent of caramel. Sweet lemon and coconut water sit alongside toasted and smoky nuances, with a touch of wood spice adding depth.
The palate is said to be creamy and enveloping, bringing together orange peel, coconut water, vanilla and caramel. Woody and smoky notes add texture, while the finish moves towards toffee and almond.

The relatively high ABV and oak-led profile keep the expression firmly within the territory of sipping rum – although it also makes a formidable cocktail.
