Apple TV expands Dark Matter universe, adds cyberpunk classic Neuromancer to 2027 slate

Apple TV is doubling down on science fiction. At San Diego Comic-Con, the streamer showcased Dark Matter and Neuromancer, two shows that approach sci‑fi from very different angles.

The second season of Dark Matter premieres globally on Friday, August 28, 2026, with episodes released weekly through October 30. Apple is also expanding the universe with Dark Matter: The Official Podcast, hosted by Blake Crouch and executive producer Jacquelyn Ben‑Zekry. 

The podcast will dissect each episode, explore the science behind the multiverse and feature cast, creatives and surprise guests. It will be available on Apple Podcasts, the Sony Pictures Television YouTube channel and the Apple TV YouTube channel.

At Comic-Con, the cast and creative team, led by Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, unveiled the new trailer at Comic-Con, offering a glimpse of a story that continues to explore the consequences of fractured realities. 

Based on Blake Crouch’s bestselling novel, the series has always been about the roads not taken, and season two pushes that idea further as the Dessens attempt to rebuild their lives in a world that finally seems safe, until it isn’t.

Edgerton’s Jason becomes increasingly obsessed with the Box, the device that shattered his life in season one, while Connelly’s Daniela struggles with paranoia that threatens to overwhelm her. Their son Charlie, played by Oakes Fegley, longs for stability as the family is forced to run once again.

Elsewhere, Amanda and Ryan (Alice Braga and Jimmi Simpson) search for a way home, while Dayo Okeniyi’s Leighton pursues his vision of a perfect world with unnerving determination.

William Gibson cyberpunk classic  Neuromancer gets TV adaptation

Apple also used Hall H panel to tease its upcoming cyberpunk adaptation, Neuromancer, via a surprise virtual appearance from star Callum Turner. The series is based on William Gibson’s landmark novel, a book that didn’t just define cyberpunk but rewired the circuitry of modern science fiction. 

The show follows Turner’s character Case, a brilliant but broken hacker pulled into a labyrinth of digital espionage and corporate secrets. Briana Middleton co‑stars as Molly, a razor‑sharp assassin whose presence in the teaser hints at a series that embraces Gibson’s neon‑lit paranoia with relish.

The cast is stacked with familiar faces. Mark Strong, Joseph Lee, Peter Sarsgaard and Clémence Poésy join Turner and Middleton, with Max Irons, Dane DeHaan, Junia Rees, Jordan Kouamé, Emma Laird, Marc Menchaca, André De Shields and Isabella Pappas rounding out the ensemble. 

The creative team is equally heavyweight. Graham Roland serves as showrunner, sharing executive producer duties with JD Dillard, who directs the first three episodes. Anonymous Content, Paramount Television Studios and DreamCrew Entertainment all contribute to the production, with Gibson himself involved as an executive producer.

Neuromancer launches globally on Friday, January 22, 2027, with two episodes before settling into a weekly Friday release through March 19.
