The Macallan opens first UK boutique inside London’s most famous department store

Harrods Macallan boutique in Harrods London

The Macallan has opened its first domestic UK boutique inside Harrods, bringing one of Scotland’s most recognisable whisky names to the heart of Knightsbridge.

The new retail space occupies the former Baccarat Bar location, adjacent to the Harrods Fine Wines & Spirits department, and marks a significant expansion of The Macallan’s presence in London.

It follows the opening of the brand’s boutique at Heathrow Terminal 5 last year and gives whisky enthusiasts access to one of the broadest selections of Macallan expressions, outside its Speyside estate.

The boutique offers a unique chance to browse rare bottlings, limited editions and core expressions, as well as bottle engraving and luxury gift wrapping services. The space has also been designed to host private dining experiences, and accommodates a tasting bar.

To mark the opening, The Macallan is releasing a Harrods-exclusive edition of Rare Cask 2026 featuring bespoke packaging designed by Spanish illustrator Javi Aznárez. Limited to just 100 bottles, the release will be available exclusively through the boutique on a first-come, first-served basis.

Inside The Macallan’s new Harrods whisky boutique

Designed in collaboration with architect Jamie Fobert, whose work includes the National Portrait Gallery extension in London and Venice’s Fondaco dei Tedeschi redevelopment, the boutique draws heavily on The Macallan’s ‘Nurtured by Nature’ retail concept.

The design recreates elements of the distillery’s 485-acre Speyside estate through botanical installations, natural materials and displays that explore the brand’s whisky-making heritage.

Copper detailing references the distillery’s small stills, while oak flooring and sculpted shelving acknowledge the influence of sherry-seasoned oak casks, which contribute the majority of The Macallan’s flavour profile and all of its natural colour.

The boutique also incorporates materials inspired by the wider whisky-making process, including Albariza stone, which pays tribute to the white soils of Jerez that nurture the sherry wines used to season The Macallan’s casks.

Waved wall features reference both the River Spey and the contours of the Speyside estate, while the brand’s long association with the colour red runs throughout the space as a nod to founder Alexander Reid, whose surname translates as ‘the red one’.

Art is also prominent. New works by designer David Carson draw inspiration from The Macallan’s Timeless Collection, while pop artist Sir Peter Blake contributes a large-scale collage that brings together characters and themes from his previous collaborations with the distillery.
