A long-standing St Andrews golfing ritual has found a new expression, as Kingsbarns Distillery launches a limited-edition single cask whisky inspired by the famed ‘19th hole’.
Developed by Wemyss Family Spirits, the family-owned business behind the distillery, The Dunvegan forms the second instalment in a golf-inspired series, and follows last year’s Caddies’ Dream release. Limited to just 750 bottles the single malt is bottled at 46% ABV.
The whisky, we’re told, draws on the atmosphere of The Dunvegan Hotel, often described as St Andrews’ unofficial 19th hole, where generations of golfers, from amateurs to major champions, including Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods, have gathered after a round.

Kingsbarn Distillery The Dunvegan tasting notes
Matured in a single sherry butt, The Dunvegan reflects Wemyss Family Spirits’ approach to flavour-led whisky making, with an emphasis squarely on cask-shaped character.
The nose and palate are described as offering layers of treacle cake, toffee and baked apricot tart, complemented by candied orange zest.
On the palate, sweeter elements are balanced by sharper notes, including pineapple candy and pickled ginger, while the finish carries pastry tones and gentle baking spices, in keeping with the distillery’s elegant, fruit-forward house style.
Peter Holroyd, Distillery Manager at Kingsbarns Distillery, said: “There’s a natural connection between whisky and golf, both rooted in patience, craft and tradition. By working with a venue so closely tied to the game, we have created a dram that reflects that shared heritage in an authentic way.”
The Dunvegan is available exclusively in the UK through the distillery’s website and visitor centre, priced at £120.

The result was a…
