Glen Moray has released two limited-edition whiskies finished in Tequila casks, marking a first for the long-established Speyside producer. The bottlings – Glen Moray Tequila Cask Finish and Glen Moray Peated Tequila Cask Finish – join its Warehouse 1 Collection, a series designed to showcase experimental cask maturation.
The small-batch releases continue Glem Moray’s ongoing exploration of cask influence, a theme that has become a defining signature of the distillery’s modern output. Both whiskies are non-chill filtered, bottled at natural colour and presented at cask strength.
Global Brand Ambassador Iain Allan frames the release as a celebration of Glen Moray’s willingness to push its spirit into new territory. These aren’t Tequila-influenced whiskies for novelty’s sake, they’re for whisky explorers who find joy in nuance.
“For this tenth release, we are celebrating our first-ever experiments with Tequila casks, resulting in two small-batch releases which take our smooth, fruity single malt to new heights. They will make the perfect gift for any inquisitive whisky lover this festive season.”
Time to break out the Glencairns…
The small-batch releases continue Glen Moray’s ongoing exploration of cask influence…
Warehouse 1 is Glen Moray’s experimental playground, the place where convention gets gently nudged aside in favour of curiosity. It’s fitting then that this tenth release sees the distillery venture into Tequila cask finishing for the first time, not once but twice, to explore two distinct flavour journeys.
The first expression, Glen Moray Tequila Cask Finish, begins with an eight-year maturation in ex-Bourbon casks before being laid down in Tequila barrels. The idea wasn’t to mask Glen Moray’s soft, orchard-fruited spirit, but to bend it slightly, introducing a herbal sweetness that plays in the space between vanilla and citrus.
Bottled at 55.2% ABV, it opens with sweet vanilla, currants and almonds on the nose, moving into a gently earthy palate lifted by sour gummies and bright citrus. A long finish exits with old leather and polished oak.
For the second release, Glen Moray took a lightly peated batch of whisky matured in Bourbon casks for eight years and subjected it to the same Tequila cask finish.
The result, Glen Moray Peated Tequila Cask Finish, bottled at 58.5% ABV, offers a more dramatic interplay. Lighter in colour than its sibling, the nose balances toffee, chocolate and a floral notes, before delivering honey, raisins and roasted bananas on the palate.
Smoke that has been evasive on the nose, also reveals itself, juicy and a tad medicinal.
Ad Gefrin, the Anglo-Saxon museum and distillery in Wooler, has released what it describes as the first legal Northumbrian single malt whisky of the modern era, ending a two-century absence of local single malt production. The debut bottling arrives as the Crǣft Series, a collection of three single cask whiskies that offer an early glimpse…

Mystery Malt has returned for its sixth instalment, and according to its creators at Thompson Brothers, it is the biggest release yet. The concept remains delightfully simple: every whisky bottle looks identical, costs the same £65, and arrives concealed beneath a tamper-proof capsule. Buyers know the full list of whiskies that could be inside, but…
