Admirers of English wine are increasingly looking to Plumpton College, for high quality, small production offerings. This hub for wine education, research, and production, has been training industry luminaries since 1989, and racking up industry awards in the process.
The recently released Bacchus Reserve has been an instant hit, following its summer launch. Exclusively crafted with hand-picked grapes from Plumpton College’s vineyard in East Sussex, this limited release boasts an intriguing flavour profile and long, lingering finish.
Its a soft, round wine offering notes of dried apricots, honeysuckle and sweet melon. Creamy and refreshing, we found it an ideal complement to pasta, grilled chicken, and fish dishes.
If you can find a bottle, you should definitely snap one up for £27.

Award-winning Plumpton Estate Brut Rosé NV
Those with a predilection for sparkling rosé, are also advised to sample the Award-Winning Plumpton Estate Brut Rosé NV. This small production cuvée is an elegant choice for outdoor gatherings, picnics and celebrations. It’s made using the traditional method of blending Pinot Meunier and Pinot, on lees in the bottle for at least two years.
Its eye-catching pink hue is a result of an added splash of Pinot Noir. This not only enhances the sparkling wine’s visual appeal but contributes to its refined red berry character.
Uncorked, expect dry, crisp acidity and a persistent mouse, with light, fruity notes of white peach and strawberry combined with a creamy brioche.
Partner this dry sparkling rosé with smoked salmon, seafood, or fish and chips, as well as chocolate desserts with forest fruits or raspberries.
Plumpton Estate Brut Rosé NV awards include CSWWC (Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships) 2016 Gold and Best in Class; CSWWC (Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships) 2017 Gold and Best in Class, and CSWWC (Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships) 2017 Best Value English Sparkling.
