LG Electronics will showcase a new range of AI-powered refrigerators at the IFA technology fair in Berlin this September, with models designed specifically for European homes.
Best known for its dominance in the OLED TV market, LG is looking to grow its presence in smart home appliances. The new line-up, which includes French door and bottom-freezer models, combines energy efficiency with novel features aimed at Europe’s typically compact kitchens.
Energy performance is enabled by optimised insulation and artificial intelligence features that learn household usage patterns. For example, the new models can adjust compressor activity to reduce power consumption during periods of low use.
As a result, refrigerators will meet, and in some cases exceed, the European Union’s highest A energy rating.
According to LG, the appliances have been developed following extensive research into local housing environments and consumer habits. Some companies treat refrigerators like background furniture, useful but anonymous. LG, long a leader in design-led tech, clearly has other ideas.

Smart features for European kitchens
For those seeking modern luxuries, LG’s new French door refrigerator debuts a Thin Door design that accommodates both water and ice dispensers without intruding into interior space.
The models also introduce LG’s Zero Clearance Hinge, which allows doors to open fully even when placed flush against a wall. Exterior styling follows a flat-door design to provide a built-in look.
Inside, retractable and adjustable shelving accommodates a variety of items, with storage zones that can be customised for meat, fish or vegetables. Open the door at similar times every evening? The system cools in advance, so your groceries stay fresher for longer.
Other touches include soft-closing doors and reshaped baskets that stop bottles toppling.
Announcing the products, Lyu Jae-cheol, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company, said: “LG’s new refrigerator lineup reflects a firm commitment to meaningful innovation, combining outstanding space and energy efficiency with designs that fit seamlessly into modern kitchens.”
