The Macallan has opened a new boutique in Los Angeles International Airport’s Tom Bradley International Terminal, marking the single malt brand’s first permanent retail presence on the US West Coast.

Situated among the terminal’s luxury retailers, the 92-square-metre space invites international travellers to experience The Macallan in an environment designed to echo the aesthetic of its Speyside estate.

Visitors can expect an immersive retail experience, with architecture and design rooted in The Macallan’s Six Pillars: a set of foundational elements that define the brand’s identity.

Designed by architect Jamie Fobert, the space features tactile materials such as oak and copper, evoking the casks and stills that shape the whisky’s character. A dramatic wave wall reflects the distinctive roofline of The Macallan’s distillery, while elements like charred oak podiums and an Albariza brick wall offer material connections to sherry-seasoned maturation and flavour development.

A centrepiece of the space is Dancing Leaf, a suspended sculpture by Los Angeles artist Sarah Ippolito, inspired by the American oak tree and the natural hues of The Macallan’s whisky.

A bespoke soundscape composed by Mimi Xu Studio, incorporating field recordings from The Macallan Estate, adds another layer of immersion, reflecting the distillery’s location in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

Naturally, travellers can also explore a curated portfolio of The Macallan expressions, including travel retail exclusives like the Colour Collection and limited-edition bottlings not available elsewhere.

A private consultation room enables discreet tastings and personalised service, while a gifting area provides bespoke packaging and monogramming.

The move follows the opening of the brand’s first boutique travel outlet in Heathrow Terminal 5
