Italian yacht builder Invictus has revealed the ST550, a luxurious motor yacht that aims to set new benchmarks in design, comfort, and space within the mid-size yacht category.
Set to make its world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14), the ST550 represents the latest evolution in the company’s ST (Space Technology) Series.
While technically the entry-level model in the new ST series, there’s nothing entry-level about the ST550 – unless your idea of an entry-level weekend toy includes handcrafted interiors, twin IPS950 engines, and more bespoke options than a Savile Row tailor.
While it’s technically the entry-level model in the new ST series, there’s nothing entry-level about the ST550…
A collaboration with designer Christian Grande, the ST550 blends contemporary Italian aesthetics with design elements inspired by classic tenders. It measures 16.87 metres in length, with a beam of 5.04 metres.
In normal human terms, that means it’s big enough to feel like a floating luxury apartment.
While the ST550 retains Invictus’ distinctive semi-reverse bow, it introduces new features that seek to improve functionality and maximise the connection between the vessel and its surroundings.
The ‘S’ in ST550 stands for Space. Real, usable, lounge-on-the-deck-with-a-glass-of-Bollinger-while-you-sail-into-the-sunset space.
A generously proportioned bow offers what the company describes as an ‘exclusive lounge.’ High bulwarks and protective glazing create a secure yet open environment, allowing passengers to experience uninterrupted views of the sea.
Built from fibreglass with a planing hull design, it’s engineered to reach top speeds of up to 35 knots. Owners have a choice of engine configurations, including twin Volvo Penta IPS800 or IPS950 systems, providing ample power for both coastal cruising and longer offshore passages.
On deck, flexibility is key. The cockpit area can be configured for dining, entertaining or sunbathing, with features such as a retractable sunshade, convertible furnishings and collapsible bulwarks that expand the usable area.
And if you’re the kind who likes toys with your toys, you’ll be delighted to know there’s a garage for a 2.8m jet tender, cleverly hidden beneath a two-stage hatch. The swim platform can be lowered below water level to facilitate tender launching and boarding.
Interior spaces continue the yacht’s theme of adaptable luxury. Below deck, there are two fully equipped cabins, a Master and a VIP, each with their own bathrooms.
The midship lounge can be converted into a third cabin or a galley, while the main deck can also host a concealed kitchen for added flexibility. Electrically operated windows and a full-height glass door at the stern offer natural light and ventilation.
In addition to its standard configuration, the ST550 can be extensively customised through Invictus Atelier, the brand’s bespoke design programme. Clients are invited to tailor the yacht’s interior and exterior finishes, including materials, colours and textures, with new options such as Stone White and Deep Groove metallic blue joining the existing colour palette.
Owners also have access to a network of expert artisans, allowing them to further personalise details and features to reflect their individual tastes.
Christian Grande describes the design approach as a “reinterpretation of the classic tender”, offering a luxurious but understated experience. “We’ve redefined space to prioritise comfort and privacy across all parts of the yacht,” he said.
What sets the ST550 apart?
While the ST550 is positioned as an introduction to the ST Series, it boasts several features rarely seen in yachts of its size. These include the expansive bow lounge, full-beam bathrooms, a retractable swim platform, and convertible social spaces that make the most of every square metre onboard.
Rosario Alcaro, General Manager of Invictus Yacht, explained: “We designed this yacht for those who seek an exclusive cruising experience. Each area, bow, stern, and main deck, has been optimised without compromise.”
Let’s be honest – he’s probably not talking about most of us. But that doesn’t mean we can’t admire it. The Invictus ST550 is a masterclass in Italian craftsmanship, a yacht that mixes high performance with inventive design and makes no apologies for either.
It’s not just a boat, it’s a lifestyle statement. And frankly, a rather good reason to start buying lottery tickets.
