Aberfeldy adds 21 Year Old Malbec Cask Finish whisky to Wine Cask collection

Aberfeldy has partnered with Argentinian Winery Finca Ambrosia, to create a tantalising new addition to its renowned Wine Cask Collection of single malt whiskies.

Distilled on November 14th, 2001, this whisky spent over two decades maturing in Sherry and Bourbon re-fill barrels and hogsheads before undergoing an additional finishing period of approximately 8 months in Finca Ambrosia’s Malbec French Oak wine casks.

The Malbec casks, previously home to Finca Ambrosia’s Viña Unica, are said to imbue the whisky with distinctive notes of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, complemented by nuanced flavours of cocoa powder, violet flowers, leather, and sweet tobacco spice.

Malt Master Stephanie Macleod and Winemaker Daniel Pi collaborated closely to select these exceptional casks, ensuring a harmonious marriage of whisky and wine.

Finca Ambrosia, nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 1250m, embraces organic practices and guided by the rhythms of the moon, cultivates grapes that capture the essence of the Gualtallary district in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, renowned for its exceptional terroir.

Commenting on the unique character of this limited edition expression, Macleod describes it as a delicate yet complex whisky that unfolds with layers of flavour. From sweet, toasted cereal and herbal sage to ripe strawberries drizzled in Aberfeldy’s signature Highland honey. The journey culminates in a creamy vanilla finish with hints of cinnamon spice.

Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, and boasting natural colour, the Aberfeldy 21 Year Old Malbec Cask Finish sells for £230.
