Christie’s auctions vintage Champagne Lanson cuvées, including rare 1921 bottle, in oenophilic extravaganza

A dusty Champagne Lanson rare 1921 vintage bottle

Champagne Lanson hopes to entice champagne connoisseurs and wine aficionados alike as it presents an ‘extraordinarily rare’ 1921 vintage at Christie’s Finest & Rare Wines & Spirits auction, on November 30 in London.

The star of the show isn’t just the ultra-rare bottle; it’s a gateway to an exclusive experience in Reims that money can’t buy – well, except at the auction.

The winning bidder will revel in the presentation of the 1921 vintage by Chef de Cave Hervé Dantan, embark on an illuminating tour of the historic house and cellars, and indulge in a gastronomic lunch with pairings from the coveted cellar reserves.

Christie’s has affixed a guide price of up to £12,000 for this rare bottle, making it a prized possession for those who covet the finer things in life.

But that’s not all the auction has to offer…

There will also be an exclusive first offering of three previously unreleased cuvées to the Lanson Vintage Collection: 1964, 1971 and 1975 vintages. Released directly from the cellars, six bottles and three magnums will be available in distinctive ‘Le Quille’ sloping shouldered-shaped bottles.

With a price range of £1,000 to £1,800, these exclusive cuvées are poised to become valuable additions to any discerning collector’s cellar.

Tim Tiptree, International Director at Christie’s Wines & Spirits and Master of Wine, shares his enthusiasm, noting, “I had an exceptional tasting of these vintages with Cellar Master Hervé Dantan in April (2023); all were superb and demonstrate, when stored correctly, how well Champagne can age and develop multi-layered complexity, whilst retaining the refreshing crisp vibrant acidity that Champagne Lanson is famous for.”

Hervé Dantan, the Winemaker at Maison Lanson, says, “During the pandemic when visitors were banned from the cellars, I was determined to make use of the time to recondition the library collection of Lanson’s older vintages, amongst them was the 1964, 1971 and 1975 vintages. I am thrilled that these and the exceptionally rare 1921 vintage will now have a moment to shine at Christie’s and look forward to sharing them with the lucky buyer.”

The bidding commences on November 30 at 10:00 am GMT, offering aficionados the chance to acquire not just a bottle but an unforgettable experience that marries the rich history of Champagne Lanson with the elegance of Christie’s Finest & Rare Wines & Spirits auction.

A toast to sophistication and indulgence awaits the highest bidder at this extraordinary event. Will you be bidding?
