Laphroaig partners with chef Tom Aikens for a premium pop-up market food and whisky experience

Chef Tom Aitkens cooks on a rough hewn log fire

Laphroaig single malt Scotch whisky is partnering with Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens, for a three day collaboration, dubbed The Laphroaig Market. Running Friday April 21 to Sunday 23 in Borough Yards, London, the ticketed event is a celebration the capital’s pioneering culinary creators and fresh food suppliers.

Inspired by Laphroaig (la-‘froyg) single malt whisky, Aikens will prepare and serve six unique dishes to order, each designed exclusively to evoke Islay’s salty seawater and the earthy smokiness of peat and malted barley.

On the menu expect Lobster Roll with sudachi, spiced mayo, nori, fried cabbage and cicely; Steak Rib Eye with Laphroaig 10 year old shallot sauce, grilled onion and pink purslane, and Cold Smoked & Charred Cabbage with fermented grains and gremolata.

Each dish is served with a bespoke Laphroaig cocktail or dram from the dedicated Laphroaig bar to bring out the flavours of these exclusive culinary creations.

Laphroaig, which literally means ‘the beautiful hollow by the broad bay,’ is one of only a few distilleries that still uses traditional malting floors and dries and infuses its own malt with the smoke from old peat-fired kilns.

With tickets available from £25, the three-day market will offer foodies and whisky lovers a unique interactive experience, where the freshest market ingredients can be handpicked and then cooked over an open fire by Aikens and his team.

The Laphroaig Market will take place at Borough Yards, Stoney St, London, and run between 12.00 – 20:00 April 21 – 23.

Tickets are available from Design My Night, priced £25 per day, and entitle the holder to one main food dish and a Laphroaig cocktail.
