Checking into the Steigenberger hotel in Bad Homburg is like taking a city break in an upmarket art gallery.
This beautifully appointed hotel, with its art deco décor, is distinguished by a welcoming gallery from the Mapawlo Collection, and the huge paintings which line each floor. If your interests straddle luxury travel and art, this has to be one of the best hotels in Frankfurt to visit.
When we arrived, the Steigenberger hotel reception was dominated by huge, colourful portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. Elvis looks down from the first floor landing.
German born artist and photographer Mapawlo (aka Markus Pawlowski) specialises in portraits of pop culture icons and fantastical sculptures, imagine Jeff Koons via Warhol if you will, and they certainly enliven the foyer.

Mapawlo’s sculptures are also a lot of fun. Perspective, which features a cheeky gnome peering through a crack in concrete, has a €4,750 price tag. The striking You Rock It, which is a skull wearing a crown, is priced at €12,450.
