Down by the seaside: Ruark Audio debuts limited edition Beach Hut Blue R1 MK4 radio

Ruark Audio has launched a limited edition colourway of its acclaimed R1 Mk4 digital radio. With Summer clearly an inspiration, this new Beach Hut Blue edition, complete with hand-crafted slatted wood grille, evokes images of sunny days down by the seaside.

The R1 Mk4, for those not familiar, is a premium DAB, DAB+ and FM radio, known to offer a punchy performance from a compact enclosure.

Inside the acoustically inert housing is a Ruark Class A-B amplifier with adaptive equalisation and NS+ driver. A OLED display relates time and programme information. The brilliance of this display varies automatically to suit light levels, making it a well behaved bedside companion.

The R1 clock remains live when power is disconnected or when transmitted data is not available. The radio can run off the mains or an optional battery pack.

Bluetooth is built-in, for easy streaming; there’s also a USB-C charge and playback port, switchable auxiliary input and stereo headphone output, for private listening.

Ruark’s distinctive RotoDial offers tactile control, although there’s a compact remote control available as an optional extra if you feel the need.

If you like the look of it (and yes we do), you’ll need to move fast to secure one. The R1 Beach Hut Blue is limited to only 1,000 units, available through a select retail network, including Harrods. It’s priced at £229.
