Marvel’s Black Widow confirmed for Disney+ Premier Access, as part of summer schedule shake-up

Marvel’s eagerly awaited, and long delayed Black Widow movie, will debut simultaneously on Disney+ Premier Access and in theatres where available, the Mouse has confirmed. The Avengers spin-off, starring Scarlett Johansson, will land on the streaming service July 9.

Disney’s live-action Cruella, starring Emma Stone, will follow the same route, arriving May 28. The news comes as part of a wider update to Disney’s summer release schedule.

No cost has yet been attached to either of these new Premier Access titles. Raya and the Last Dragon is currently available on Disney Plus Premier Access for £19.99.

Similar to the launch of Disney and Pixar’s Academy Award-nominated Soul, Disney and Pixar’s Luca will stream directly in homes worldwide exclusively on Disney+ beginning June 18, as a special offering to kick-off the summer season, at no additional cost to subscribers.  In international markets where Disney+ is not yet available, Luca will be released theatrically.

The shake-up will doubtless give another significant boost to the fast-rising streaming service, which recently announced more than 100 million global paid subscribers.

Similar to the launch of Soul, Disney Pixel’s Luca will stream directly in homes as a special offering to kick-ff the summer season…

Theatrical release dates have also shifted for several additional upcoming films. We can now expect to see the Ryan Reynolds comedy Free Guy theatrically on 13 August, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on September 3, The King’s Man on December 22, with Deep Water and Death on the Nile bowing January 14 2022 and February 11 2022 respectively.

Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution, said: “Today’s announcement reflects our focus on providing consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of audiences.  By leveraging a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic marketplace that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to employ the best options to deliver The Walt Disney Company’s unparalleled storytelling to fans and families around the world.”
