Amazon Prime Video ventures into Indian film production with action adventure Ram Setu

Amazon Prime Video has taken its first steps into film production in India, co-producing upcoming Hindi action movie Ram Setu.

Directed by Abhishek Sharma (Parmanu, Tere Bin Laden) and creatively produced by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi (Prithviraj Chauhan), the movie is an adventure yarn that leans heavily into Indian cultural and historical heritage. 

Star Akshay Kumar said: “The story of Ram Setu is one that has always intrigued and inspired me. It represents strength, bravery and love, and uniquely Indian values that have formed the moral and social fabric of our great country. Ram Setu is a bridge between generations past, present and future. I look forward to telling the story of a significant part of Indian heritage,  especially for the youth and I am happy that, with Amazon Prime Video, the story will cut across  geographies and strike a chord with viewers across the world.”  

Following a theatrical release, Ram Setu will be available to Prime members in more than 240 countries and territories.

Also co-producing are Cape of Good Films, Abundantia Entertainment and Lyca Productions. Vikram Malhotra, CEO of Abundantia, comments: “In India, mythology, religion and history are deeply intertwined. Ram Setu is a story formed on facts, science and historical heritage and is anchored in the deep belief of Indians since centuries.”

Abundantia Entertainment has already collaborated with Prime for the Amazon Original Series Breathe and Breathe: Into The Shadows, as well upcoming tentpole series The End, which also stars Akshay Kumar.  

Prime Video boasts an extensive Bollywood offering, with Indian-produced Amazon Original series such as Sons of the Soil: Jaipur Pink Panthers, Bandish Bandits, Paatal Lok, Comicstaan Semma Comedy Pa, The Family Man S1, Mirzapur, Inside Edge and Made In Heaven.
