Bang & Olufsen partners with Xbox Series X for high-end gaming audio system

Luxury Danish home entertainment manufacturer Bang & Olufsen is partnering with Xbox to create a new high-end audio system for the upcoming Xbox Series X Next Gen games console.

The announcement reflects the premium nature of Microsoft’s new gaming offering, which is expected to launch later this year. The idea, says the company, is to leverage Bang & Olufsen’s core capabilities of sound, design and craft for discerning gamers.

As yet we don’t know the form and function of this first B&O Xbox product, but our whistles are most definitely whetted at the prospect.

“We want to do what we do best: delivering outstanding sound performance wrapped in astonishing design…”

Christoffer Poulsen

We do know that the incoming Xbox Series X will offer immersive 3D sound, with support for Dolby Atmos, as standard, so we might speculate that Bang & Olufsen is developing a gaming soundbar, or all-in-one sound system, to best exploit this.

The audio hardware will also support  ‘Designed for Xbox’ functionality.

“The gaming industry has grown significantly over the last few years across age groups, gender and countries, and we expect this trend to continue,” comments Vice President and Head of Product Management at Bang & Olufsen, Christoffer Poulsen.

“The technology has advanced significantly in gaming, and enhancing the sound experience offers a place for us to play a key role. By entering the gaming industry, we want to do what we do best: delivering outstanding sound performance wrapped in astonishing design and solid craftmanship. We see a big commercial potential within gaming, and in Xbox we believe we have found the ideal partner to realise that potential,”

Matt Kesselring, Head of Hardware Partnerships at Xbox, talking about this meeting of minds, suggests the collaboration will usher in “a new premium tier of gaming audio.”
