Currently completing an exhaustive renovation, the lti Maafushivaru plans to open its doors to guests April 30. Admittedly, there probably won’t be too many waiting in line on day one, but we suspect plenty will be eager to visit in the months that follow.
Located in the spectacular South Ari Atoll, Maafushivaru promises a mix of contemporary design and fine dining, always a winning combination in our book.
To reach the atoll, visitors make a 25-minute seaplane journey from Male. The resort runs 350 metres in length, with an instagrammable mix of palm trees and powder-soft white-sanded beaches.
Moodhu Grill is the lti Maafushivaru’s new signature restaurant, offering meat and seafood dishes from its tandoor oven…
Lti Maafushivaru resort is an island paradise
There are 81 new guest villas, which include Beach Villas, Beach Pool Villas and Duplex Pool Villas, each boasting chic touches and mod-cons.
Beach Villas feature private sea facing sun decks, and semi-open garden bathrooms with rainfall showers. More secluded are the Beach Pool Villas with private plunge pool overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Moodhu Gruill is the place for tandoori treats
The new look resort promises to be a foodie heaven, thanks to a host of new dining options. Moodhu Grill is the lti Maafushivaru’s new signature restaurant, offering meat and seafood dishes from its tandoor oven, while the nearby Umi provides an over water teppanyaki experience. Cielo, located above the Water Bar is an all-day eatery with a Mediterranean menu, while poolside, Las Tapas, presents lunchtime bites. The Cuisine Gallery offers Mediterranean cuisine infused with local and regional flavours.
The island offers Half Board, Half Board Plus and Dine Around All Inclusive options. Half Board includes breakfast and dinner at the Cuisine Gallery, Half Board Plus additionally includes a wide range of beverages including selected international branded spirits, an extensive cocktail and wine list.
For the unexpurgated experience, there’s the Dine-Around All Inclusive which also includes breakfast at the Cuisine Gallery, with lunch and dinner at any of the operational à la carte restaurants on the island.
If you have time between meals, there’s also the Océane Spa, a wellness retreat at the water’s edge, offering couples therapies, single massages, and facial and body treatments.
Newly renovated rooms offer contemporary chic
The developers have renovated Maafushivaru with conservation and protection at the forefront of the project.
Marine life around lti Maafushivaru is abundant. Excursions include snorkelling trips, dolphin spotting, and trips to local island Dhangethi. The Dive Centre at Maafushivaru offers PADI qualifications and courses for all levels from beginners to experienced divers.
Duplex villa? Oh go on then..
Still need to be convinced? Consider Lonubo, the resort’s private castaway island, just 500m from the shores of the resort. This unspoilt spot is ringed by a coral reef and with a verdant interior, concealing a villa for two. A picnic here can be capped with a private dinner or a spa treatment. It’s a rotten life but someone has to live it.
The Maafushivaru resort is exclusive to Kuoni in the UK. Prices start from £2,499.
