Live music, rare vinyl and remarkable systems
The listening rooms at The Happening are designed to show what can be achieved through careful system building. Absolute Sounds says the six systems featured have been meticulously matched and installed, with component selection, setup and system balance playing a central role. The aim is to deliver high levels of realism, coherence and musical presence.
Visitors will also get to enjot two live performances. On Saturday evening, London’s Dust Me Down Blues Band will perform a set drawing on Chicago blues, seventies funk, gospel and jazz. The four-piece is rooted in London’s blues scene and promises an energetic performance built around groove and rhythm.
Sunday will bring a very different musical experience. Palestinian oud player Nizar Rohana will perform with Dutch double bassist Tony Overwater. The duo will draw on Arabic and Middle Eastern traditions, with influences ranging from Bach and Miles Davis to Paco de Lucía.
Nagra live recording engineer Matthieu Latour will be on hand to record both performances.
The luxury of listening
Those looking for a different experience can also take part in a sound bath led by psychologist and wellbeing specialist Kasia Richter, founder of Wellbeing Strategist. Her 20-minute introductory sessions use gongs, singing bowls and other instruments to create an immersive soundscape designed to encourage relaxation.
Vinyl will have a significant presence too. Specialist record sellers will bring collections of LPs to browse and buy. Perfect if you enjoy hunting for rarities, or simply want to discover something unexpected.
High-end turntables in the demo rooms will give everyone the chance to hear their vinyl reproduced through some of the finest analogue equipment on the planet.
