Ares Yachts has released the first official sailing photography of its 62 metre flagship ketch, Simena, captured off Saint-Tropez during her first Mediterranean season.
The images capture the elegant ketch doing exactly what she was designed to do, carving through the Med under wind power rather than simply serving as a floating luxury residence.
The photography shows Simena making between 8.5 and 9.5 knots in winds of 13 to 16 knots. Leaning into the breeze, with her sails drawing cleanly and her hull slicing through the water, the yacht presents a very different character from the poised silhouette she cuts while lying quietly at anchor.
That sailing pedigree has been well tested. Since entering service, Simena has covered approximately 3,250 nautical miles across the Mediterranean, calling at Monaco, Genoa, Palma de Mallorca, Saint-Tropez and Imperia.
Among her longer passages was a non-stop 1,200-nautical-mile delivery voyage from Fethiye in Turkey to Monaco.
The yacht will continue her Mediterranean itinerary throughout the summer, with visits to the French Riviera, a possible appearance in Portofino and northern Sardinia during the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, before arriving in Monaco ahead of September’s Monaco Yacht Show. There, she is expected to be among the largest sailing superyachts on display.

Inside Simena superyacht
At 62 metres, Simena ranks among the world’s 25 longest sailing superyachts. Her exterior styling and naval architecture are the work of Istanbul-based Taka Yacht Design, while the interiors have been created by Design Unlimited.
Long teak decks and varnished sipo mahogany distinguish the exterior. Accommodation is arranged for up to 12 guests across six cabins, centred around a full-beam owner’s suite positioned forward. Outside, a generous cockpit provides dining for up to 14 guests, while a discreetly integrated sunken flybridge offers elevated views.
A six-square-metre fold-down swim platform creates easy access to the sea when the anchor is finally dropped.

Simena’s towering ketch rig is dominated by a 59-metre mainmast and a 48-metre mizzen mast carrying an extensive sail wardrobe supplied by Doyle Sails. Together, the 470-square-metre mainsail, 249-square-metre mizzen, 596-square-metre genoa and 356-square-metre staysail provide an impressive spread of canvas.
During sea trials, the yacht achieved 16 knots under sail alone in 20 knots of wind, a genuine sailing performance.
When the wind eases, hybrid propulsion takes over. An electric cruising mode allows Simena to travel quietly at around eight knots using generator-powered electric propulsion, offering a calculated range of approximately 6,000 nautical miles.
A conventional MAN diesel engine provides additional flexibility, delivering a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising range of around 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots.
Simena is currently offered for sale exclusively through Northrop & Johnson.
