The Bühlmann Decompression 02 is a professional-grade mechanical dive watch on a mission. Building on the success of the 2021 Decompression 01, the new model focuses on enhanced functionality, safety and real-world usability, with a design shaped by decades of research originating from Dr Albert A. Bühlmann’s pioneering decompression work.
The Decompression 02 is of its ilk to feature both a Twin Safety Diving Bezel and a Twin Decompression Stops Dial. This dual-system approach enables divers to track total dive time and decompression stops independently, each with its own fail-safe rotation direction.
The setup mirrors the practical workflow of modern diving: total dive time is measured via the inner bezel, decompression stops at 9, 6 and 3 metres via the outer bezel, and ascent rate via the seconds hand.
A mechanical ‘dive profile’ selector, controlled by the right-hand crown, displays the chosen depth and bottom time through a window at 6 o’clock, pulling directly from the ZH-L16 decompression algorithm.

A dive watch built on scientific legacy
The logic behind the watch is deeply rooted in Bühlmann’s scientific legacy. His ZH-L16 model remains the basis for most modern dive computers, and its inclusion here allows the Decompression 02 to serve as a dependable analogue backup for professionals.
Developed with working divers and validated by decompression specialists – including members of the original Bühlmann research team, DAN Europe and CMAS Switzerland – the watch has been engineered for the Golden Zone: the 17 most common single-tank dive profiles up to 39 metres, at altitudes from sea level to 700 metres.
Several design choices elevate usability. A large minute hand ensures clear timing during stops, while a minimalist hour hand keeps the focus on critical information. The case is angled by 5 degrees to improve legibility underwater, while a concave case back enhances comfort.
A flexible strap joint allows the watch to adapt to a range of wrist sizes, and a detachable extension simplified fitting over a wetsuit. The helium valve protects the movement during mixed-gas dives, and the 575m water-resistance, a nod to Bühlmann’s own hyperbaric record, ensures durability well beyond the demands of recreational diving.
Design and price
Visually, the Decompression 02 carries through the brand’s scientific heritage. Its circular decompression logic echoes Bühlmann’s original calculator, and the Druckkammer Blue dial celebrates the hyperbaric chamber work that shaped modern dive safety. upplied in a special dive box suitable for gifting or travel, the model will be produced in a limited run of 575 pieces, underscoring its specialist credentials.
