Sip, sketch, and sculpt: Spot Whiskeys paint London town with World Art Day events

Bentleys cocktail and Spot whiskey

London is about to get a splash more colourful, and not just on canvas. This April and May, Spot Whiskeys is raising a glass to World Art Day (April 15) with a calendar of events that blend the brand’s artistic legacy with limited-edition cocktails, pairing menus, pottery sessions, and painting workshops.

Whether you’re a whisky fan, a cocktail connoisseur, or a lover of all things art, there’s plenty to explore across the capital.

Before we dive into what’s happening, it’s worth understanding the story behind the Spot Whiskeys label. The Spot range dates back to 1887, when Mitchell & Son, already known for their work in baking, confectionery and wine, began bonding whiskey in Dublin.

Their innovative labelling system used coloured paint daubs to indicate the age of each cask, giving rise to now-iconic expressions: Green Spot, Yellow Spot, Red Spot, Blue Spot, and most recently, Gold Spot.

This inventive, visual approach was more than just practical, it was artistic. And now, over 130 years later, Spot is embracing its origins by celebrating World Art Day with the same vibrant flair.

Limited-edition cocktails and Whiskey-inspired menus

For those who’d rather sip than sculpt, London’s finest restaurants and bars are serving limited-edition Spot Whiskey cocktails and dishes through April and May, bringing the label’s colourful character to glass and plate.

Daffodil Mulligan & Gibney’s, Old Street, throughout April

The modern Irish hotspot is featuring three new Spot Whiskey cocktails: Clubs of Cork: Red Spot with raspberries, vermouth, lemon and egg white, a fruit-forward stunner; Buí agus Bán: A refined mix of Yellow Spot, Amontillado sherry and salted honey, silky, nutty and subtly sweet; and the Fauna Highball, A fresh and botanical blend of Green Spot with dandelion and green tea. Also, don’t miss the Yellow Spot-infused soft serve dessert, topped with salted caramel crumb, a sweet spot, quite literally.

The George, Fitzrovia, cocktails available April 14 -20

On World Art Day itself, The George will host a Spot Whiskey masterclass, a guided, flavourful exploration through the brand’s spectrum of expressions. Cocktails include a special Green Spot Chateau Montelena serve, blended with red wine to honour the wine-cask finishes that make the Green Spot range so distinctive.
