Frameless London x Claire Luxton review: Light show at the Gates of Dawn

Ballerina at Frameless

UK-based digital artist Claire Luxton’s new surrealist installation, Right Before We Wake, has opened at Frameless London. Luxton has taken over Frameless’s fifth Blank Canvas space, with an immersive exploration of that strange, ephemeral moment when the mind is adrift between dreams and consciousness.

Created in association with Adobe, the piece, with its swirling visuals of moss-covered skulls, planets, and luminescent tunnels, take inspiration from the Symbolist movement of the late 19th-century, which inspired artists like Gustave Moreau, Odilon Redon, and Paul Gauguin

Running on a continuous loop, its trippy, psychedelic aesthetic is reminiscent of an early Pink Floyd soundtrack, bathed in tranquil hues of blue, green, and gold.

The Luxe Review attended the opening night of the art installation, which saw illuminated ballerinas wafting between guests and galleries, and Royal Salute whisky cocktails dispensed in celebration. Spokespeople from Adobe confided that the entire art piece has been crafted from Adobe software tools. It’s a magical achievement.

Luxton’s residency doesn’t seem out of place, as it runs alongside immersive reimagined artworks by Salvador Dalí, Hieronymous Bosch, and Max Ernst.

Luxton is no stranger to big canvases. In 2024, the artist was commissioned by Battersea Power Station to produce Field of Dreams, a spectacular project involving a massive drop from the mall ceiling, which explored connections between nature and mental health.

What is Frameless London?

Frameless London is the largest permanent multi-sensory experience in the UK: a space replete with four immersive galleries able to breathe animated life into classic masterpieces.

Here, projection mapping transforms works by Cezanne, Kandinsky, and Monet; Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa roars to life on floor-to-ceiling screens, finally free of its woodblock origins.

Whether you’re a seasoned art lover or simply in search of something extraordinary to do in London, this exhibition offers a truly unique visitor experience.

Claire Luxton’s Right Before We Wake will play at Frameless London until June 28, 2025. For those seeking a spectacular digital art adventure in the heart of London, it’s well worth a visit. Bring your own prog rock.

Frameless is located at Marble Arch, London. Tickets are available now via the Frameless website.
