This Barbie is a sailor! Just when you thought Barbie’s world domination was complete (see: the most anticipated movie of 2023, the biggest cinema opening day of the year, and even being said to ‘save cinema’ with the best ticket sales for years, according to The Telegraph), now, the iconic toy is set to conquer the sea as well as the land.

That’s because Barbie has partnered with P&O Cruises, bringing dedicated Barbie areas to its family ships, Arvia and Iona, for the 2023 summer holidays season. Fans won’t quite get to meet their favourite doll, but families can capture the perfect Instagram moment by posing inside a lifesize Barbie box, while younger cruisers will be able to dress up as their favourite Barbie characters, with fancy-dress costumes available in the ship’s retail outlets.

Elsewhere, other family-friendly activities onboard the fleet’s newest ship, Arvia, include a tropical-island-themed mini-golf course, a daring high-ropes experience, Mission Control, an immersive escape room experience set on a fictional submarine, and the children’s splash pad – the perfect place to take your mermaid Barbie, we reckon.

It’s not the first time P&O has partnered with a family film favourite – the British cruise line also partners with Aardman, the creators of Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, to bring a range of character-based activities for all generations to its family-friendly ships. This includes the first at-sea Wallace & Gromit show, modelling and craft workshops, and film screenings.
