Aviation watch specialist AVI-8 has released two new collectable timepieces in line with Remembrance Sunday, as part of its continuing support for the Royal British Legion.
The Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph Limited Edition (pictured top) and sibling Chairman’s Meca-Quartz Limited Edition, are each limited to 1,000 pieces, with each watch sold contributing to the charity.
The new additions for its inaugural Royal British Legion partnership in May 2021, and take inspiration from the charity’s first Chairman, Sir Thomas Frederick Lister, and the first President, Field Marshal Earl Haig. The Royal British Legion was formed by Lister and Haig in the wake of the First World War.
Each timepiece comes with an exclusive RBL 2021 dated poppy lapel pin. Since it was first worn as an act of Remembrance just over 100 years ago, the poppy has become an enduring symbol of support for the Armed Forces, past and present.
The Founder’s Limited Edition is a 1940’s style bicompax (with two registers) chronograph distinguished by vintage elements, including cathedral style hands and a telemeter on the chapter ring.

The Founder’s Limited Edition is distinguished by cathedral style hands
Completing the dial is a distinctive red poppy on the chronograph seconds hand. At 40mm in diameter, the case is elegantly proportioned for everyday wear. An ‘onion’ style crown draws from trench watches in the early 20th century and became a feature of the first pilot watches.
Topping the crown is a red two petal poppy encased in epoxy.
The Founder’s edition utilises a Japanese meca-quartz movement that blends quartz accuracy with the hand feel of a mechanical movement. A vintage-inspired hand stitched genuine leather strap completes the look.
The Chairman’s Limited Edition chronograph with onion crown
The Chairman’s Limited Edition offers an aviation inspired dial with syringe-style hands and Arabic hour indexes with Swiss lume on a textured mae canvas. The iconic two petal poppy is stamped at the 6 o’clock position. Sized at 40mm, the brushed and polished case features a unidirectional bezel and a double domed hardened mineral glass with anti-reflective coating.
It sports an ‘onion’ crown topped by a red poppy encased in epoxy. Powering the Chairman’s edition is a Japanese meca-quartz movement, with smooth, sweeping seconds hand. A hand stitched genuine leather strap ensures a comfortable fit
The Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph Limited Edition sells for £225, while the Chairman’s Limited Edition retails for £125.
