Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is adding a fourth property to its Italian portfolio, announcing Rosewood Rome, scheduled to open 2023 in the heart of the capital city. Located in the former headquarters of Italy’s Banca Nazionale del Lavoro overlooking the Via Veneto, as featured in Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, the new ultra-luxury hotel promises easy access to the city’s renowned attractions, premium shops and lauded dining destinations.
Occupying an entire block, Rosewood Rome will encompass three historic buildings, originally built in the early 1900s. The developer says the crown jewel of the project will be the renovation of the former BNL headquarters, initially designed by renowned Italian architect and urban planner Marcello Piacentini.
The reimaging will be managed by Colliers International, led by global architecture and engineering firm Jacobs, and Australian interior design outfit BAR Studio. The aim, they say, is to build upon Piacentini’s legacy and pay homage to the property’s roots as an exemplar of modernist Italian architecture.
The hotel will be influenced by its location, overlooking Via Veneto, as featured in Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita…
In keeping with Rosewood’s guiding ‘A Sense of Place’ philosophy, Rome’s relaxed ambiance and devotion to dolce far niente, or the art of “doing nothing”, the hotel’s design concept will ‘mix traditional architectural elements with modern décor and detailing to create a sophisticated environment for the ultimate life of leisure.’
When it opens, Rosewood Rome will offer 157 rooms, including 44 suites, a trio of dining outlets, including a contemporary Italian bistro, a lobby bar and café and a rooftop bar with a terrace offering sweeping views of the city.
Additional amenities include a subterrain experience within the bank’s original vault featuring a modern Roman Bathhouse and spa.
Rosewood Rome will join Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany and the upcoming Rosewood Porto Cervo and Rosewood Venice, set to open in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Rosewood’s other European properties include Rosewood London and Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel in Paris.
