Streaming service Disney+ has launched a new co-viewing experience, called GroupWatch. It allows friends and family to watch content from the Disney+ library, including Star Wars, Marvel, Disney classics, Pixar and National Geo, as part of a co-viewing experience.
Included as part of the Disney+ monthly £5.99 subscription, GroupWatch allows for up to seven different subscribers to watch together, across smart TV apps, mobile, media streamers and the web, sharing reactions in real time.
As the playback is synchronised, each participant can play, rewind or pause for the whole group.
Disney+ subscribers can launch the experience by selecting the GroupWatch icon on the Details page in Disney+. They will then be given a link to invite up to six other people to watch with them. Invitations must originate from mobile or web, but you can then watch from a streaming TV device or Smart telly.
While watching, they can react in real time with six different emojis: like, funny, sad, angry, scared and surprised, through the Disney+ app.
There are limitations though. GroupWatch only supports viewers in the same country, so you can’t share a screen with friends or family in a different Disney+ territory.
The new feature has been launched in time for the debut of hit Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian Season 2, which lands on Disney+ October 30.
