Blue Lagoon Lava Cove spa offers the ultimate Icelandic retreat

Quarantine has rarely looked so inviting.

Welcome to Lava Cove, a secluded, exclusive spa suite, within The Retreat Spa at the Blue Lagoon resort, Iceland.

Currently, if you visit Iceland you have to take a Covid test on arrival and then quarantine at your accommodation until you get the results. Not quite the hardship when Lava Cove, a spa within a spa, is your lockup. This extraordinary suite, which includes a private entrance, lagoon, fireplace, and a butler, is all about comfort, wellbeing and indulgence.

You can customise your Lava Cove experience with in-suite gourmet dining, in-water massage, and guided yoga sessions.

The Blue Lagoon is a bus ride from Reykjavík

The Blue Lagoon is a popular Icelandic destination, be it for a day visit to the Retreat Spa or overnight stays. There’s round trip transport available, courtesy of the Destination Blue Lagoon coach, which will pick you up from your hotel in Reykjavík.

Set amid centuries-old lava and surrounded by the Blue Lagoon’s geothermal seawater, the Retreat hotel is built into an 800-year-old lava flow on the south shore of the lagoon. Each of its 62 suites has been designed to bring the dramatic terrain of Iceland in-room, with floor-to-ceiling windows, and smart lighting able to mimic the phases of the sun.

Lagoon with a view

Arranged on two levels, the suites on the lower level feature private terraces, with some offering guests direct access to the lagoon’s pools (you’ll find us at the in-water bar).

The upper level suites boast private balconies overlooking the moss-covered horizon, a showcase for the stunning Icelandic landscape. Guests are able to choose from five different suite types; Moss Junior Suite, Lagoon View Junior Suite, Lava View Junior Suite, Moss Suite and Lagoon Suite.

The Lava restaurant is built into the west wall of the lagoon

Offered to both overnight guests of the Retreat and day guests, the Spa features a steam room built into the lava rock; a cold well; in-water massages; treatment rooms offering bench massages and beauty treatments and a Spa restaurant. You even indulge in the Blue Lagoon Ritual, which involves a wrap of silica, algae and minerals.

Stunning views over the Icelandic landscape

And new this year is the Retreat Lagoon, a new Blue Lagoon experience where the mineral-rich water flows around the Retreat through a terraced concourse of lava.

The Blue Lagoon is open for day visits, choose from Comfort, Premium and Luxury packages, as well as overnight stays. All 2020 bookings can be modified or changed penalty free. For more visit The Retreat at the Blue Lagoon here.
