Download tops Glasto in Spotify Festival playlist streaming chart 2020

Heavy metal music festival Download has topped Spotify’s Top 10 festival playlist chart 2020, drowning out rivals Creamfields, Glastonbury, and Green Man, according to new listening data released by the streaming music giant.

Spotify has number-crunched its UK streaming data, and researched with 2,000 adults, to unearth the big festival listening trends of our lockdown summer.  

Glasto was set to celebrate its 50th anniversary at Worthy Farm this year. Spotify looked at how listeners have been streaming the 2020 lineup and reveals Dua Lipa is the most streamed artist amongst listeners in the UK, followed by festival headliner Taylor Swift and British rappers AJ Tracey and Aitch.

Things fans hate most about festivals are bad weather and the loos…

In the absence of music festivals and large summer gatherings taking place this summer, people in the UK have been seeking out alternatives, with over a quarter planning their own virtual festival options, and 30 per cent hosting their own festival-parties at home with friends or family. 

Spotify reports summer BBQ and summer garden playlists being played at a 67 per cent higher rate this year than 2019.  

When asked about their ultimate Glastonbury headliner Brits named Fleetwood Mac  their top choice, followed by Elton John and Led Zeppelin. 

Londoners reportedly number the biggest festival-goers in the UK, planning to attend more festivals than any other region according to the survey, followed closely by people in Wales and South West England. Nearly half of Brits aim to attend music festivals in 2021. 

The best reasons to attend a festival, according to the Spotify survey, are the music and atmosphere. The worst aspects of festival life are the loos and the bad weather.
