Bruichladdich has unveiled Greener Still, a 15 year old single malt whisky created to mark 25 years since the Hebridean distillery’s resurrection – but that’s not the whole story. The release also aims to shine a spotlight on environmental and social sustainability in Scotch whisky.
The limited-edition bottling completes a series of special releases created for the distillery’s 25th anniversary, alongside Bruichladdich Old Skool and Yellow Submarine III.
The Still Series – Blacker Still, Redder Still and Golder Still – is known for its opaque, colour-coded bottles and experimental approach to maturation. Greener Still takes the idea in a different direction, with a focus on raw material rather than a particular cask style, bringing together Organic, Biodynamic and Bere barley.
The Organic barley is grown on the Scottish mainland without artificial inputs; the Biodynamic barley comes from Yatesbury House Farm in Wiltshire, which is carbon positive and represents Bruichladdich’s only departure from its commitment to 100 per cent Scottish barley. Bere barley is a more ancient and genetically diverse variety cultivated on Orkney.

Bruichladdich Greener Still tasting notes
Unpeated, the whisky has spent all 15 years maturing entirely in first-fill bourbon casks, allowing the character of the different barley varieties to remain prominent while adding sweetness, spice and vanilla.
Bottled at a punchy 51.6% ABV, it’s un-chill filtered with no added colouring.
The nose reportedly opens with soft lavender and sweet honeysuckle, backed by gentle toasted oak. Orchard fruit and warming spice bring associations of baked apple crumble and cinnamon sugar.
On the palate, ripe pear leads, with citrus providing a bright lift. The combination of barley varieties supplies a distinctly malty backbone, says the distillery. First-fill bourbon casks bring cinnamon, chocolate caramel and honeyed citrus, adding richness without dominating the spirit.
The finish is described as smooth and velvety, with ripe orchard fruit and the caramelised sweetness of Pasteis de nata. Vanilla follows from the bourbon maturation, accompanied by a restrained salty note that recalls the whisky’s coastal Islay home.
