Prime Video hasn’t lost faith in Middle-earth. The streamer stormed the San Diego Comic-Con with a substantial preview of the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, transporting more than 6,500 fans back into Tolkien’s Second Age while unveiling fresh footage, new cast members and several carefully guarded surprises.
Season three arrives on the service November 11 with its opening four episodes, before concluding across two further weekly releases later in the month.

What to expect from Season 3
The new season promises a markedly darker tone, as alliances begin to fracture under mounting pressure. Khazad-dûm, Lindon and Rivendell remain among the last bastions resisting Sauron’s advance, forcing Dwarves, Elves, Men and Wizards towards increasingly uneasy cooperation.
Five years have passed since the fall of Eregion. Sauron’s armies have spread across Middle-earth, while the Dark Lord labours within Barad-dûr to forge the One Ring that will cement his domination over every free people still standing against him.
Comic-Con also provided an opportunity to reveal several new additions to the cast. Eddie Marsan joins as Thrain, older brother to King Durin IV, while Andrew Richardson takes the role of Anárion and Adam Young appears as the mysterious Orc Marnûkh. Earlier announcements had already confirmed Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn and Zubin Varla as Khamûl the Easterling.
Simon Pegg to voice The Balrog
Perhaps the panel’s most unexpected revelation came courtesy of Simon Pegg. For the first time, the fearsome Balrog will speak, with Pegg providing its voice.
The surprises didn’t end there. Proceedings were interrupted by the dramatic entrance of four imposing Nazgnagôl, servants of Sauron who represent an earlier Second Age incarnation of the Nazgûl.
For a series already boasting more than 185 million viewers worldwide, season three looks set to continue expanding both its scale and its mythology.
If the footage shown in San Diego is any indication, the war for Middle-earth is about to become considerably more dangerous.
