Disney+ drops glossy Love Story JFK Jr drama and confirms Rivals Season 2 launch

Love Story on Disney Plus

If your watchlist is looking a little thin on glamour, scandal and period drama, Disney+ has some timely remedies. The streamer has just unveiled fresh details for a glossy new FX limited series about one of America’s most mythologised couples, while also confirming the return date of its hit satirical Jilly Cooper-penned mega-soap.

FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette lands on Disney+ February 13, launching Ryan Murphy’s new Love Story anthology with a nine-part series charting one of the most scrutinised romances of the 20th century. Meanwhile, the award-winning Rivals is officially back for a second season on May 15, promising more polo, power plays and outrageous eighties indulgence.

Inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s bestseller, the series is the first instalment in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story anthology…

Sarah Pidgeon stars as Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, with Paul Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr. Kurt Iswarienko/FX

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette

Premiering with a three-episode launch, followed by weekly instalments, the series explores the whirlwind courtship, marriage and media glare surrounding John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, a couple whose private life became a public spectacle long before social media made such scrutiny routine.

Paul Anthony Kelly plays Kennedy Jr., often described as the closest thing America had to royalty, while Sarah Pidgeon stars as Bessette, a fiercely independent figure who rose from Calvin Klein sales assistant to executive, becoming a trusted confidante of the fashion house’s founder. Their relationship, immediate and intense, unfolded under relentless press attention, with fame proving as much a pressure as a privilege.

The cast is a roll call of prestige TV regulars, including Naomi Watts as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, Alessandro Nivola as Calvin Klein, Leila George as Kelly Klein, Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette and Constance Zimmer as publicist Ann Marie Messina.

Inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the series is the first instalment in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story anthology. It’s created by Connor Hines and executive produced by Murphy alongside Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and a substantial creative team, with Max Winkler directing the pilot.

Jilly Cooper’s Rivals Season 2 update

Also just confirmed by the streamer is the return of Rivals, which will kick off its second season May 15, rolling out in two six-episode batches. Based on Dame Jilly Cooper’s beloved bonkbuster, the series continues its high-gloss dive into the glamorous, ruthless world of the Central South West television franchise wars.

The new season pushes the conflict between Corinium and Venturer into more dangerous territory, as Tony Baddingham tightens his grip on power through scandal, manipulation and strategic cruelty. Alongside the boardroom battles, the personal lives of Rutshire’s residents unravel amid 80s excess: marriages strain, affairs ignite and long-buried secrets surface .

David Tennant returns as Lord Tony Baddingham, joined once again by Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner, Nafessa Williams, Bella Maclean, Katherine Parkinson, Danny Dyer and a large ensemble cast. New guest stars include Hayley Atwell and Rupert Everett.

Available from £5.99 per month, Disney+ is home to a growing library of new TV shows, blockbuster movies, exclusive Originals, and live football from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Hulu.
