Classic, barrel-aged or sour: Top Negroni variations to try at Campari’s new London bar

Campari Negroni on a bar top

If you’re in search of the perfect Negroni, we know where you can find it.

Campari, the Italian apéritif brand, has opened the Negroni Bar by Campari inside The Alchemist Monument, in London. This ritzy space is officially the new home of Campari in the UK, and a veritable temple to one of the country’s most beloved cocktails.

Campari has long been synonymous with Italian drinking culture, bringing its characteristic, red bitterness to classic cocktails worldwide. With its new home in the Capital, the brand wants to immerse drinkers in an authentic Campari experience, complete with deep red lighting and tinted mirrors.

To celebrate the opening, Campari held an exclusive shindig at the bar, and The Luxe Review dropped in to sample the menu…

Authentic Campari Cocktails in London

Offering seven variations of the Negroni, there’s something for every palate at the The Alchemist Monument’s Negroni bar, whether you’re a seasoned aficionado or a newcomer to the cocktail’s bold flavours.

Obviously the Classic Negroni (£13) is irresistible, and here you’re served a faultless mix of Campari, Millers gin, and Martini Rubino, balanced to perfection.

However, the real star of the show, and the Negroni you should order next, is the Barrel-Aged Negroni (£15). It’s a bolder, more matured version of the staple, crafted from Campari, Tanqueray 10 gin, Regal Bold Red vermouth, aged in a red wine and port barrel, for additional complexity and richness.

It’s less frivolous than its sibling, and offers a greater depth of flavour.

There’s also the Pressurised Negroni (£14), created from Campari, Millers gin, Martini Rubino, Grand Marnier, embellished with chocolate cookie and chocolate orange; the Negroni Sour (£13), a slightly tart variation, a lemon, honey and citrus cordial, and the Negroni Paradiso (14), which offers a sunnier take, with coconut washed Millers gin, tropical vermouth, pineapple and coconut.

Also on the menu is the No-Groni (£10), a non-alcoholic version, and the Campari Spritz (£13), a light and refreshing introduction, with prosecco and soda.

To complement these cocktails, the Negroni Bar also offers a selection of small plates, including chicken waffles, and bao buns.

You’ll find the Negroni Bar by Campari at at The Alchemist Monument, 16-18 Eastcheap, City of London, EC3M 1BD.

Campari is available from The Whisky Exchange, priced £20.75. A pre-mixed bottle of Campari Negroni sells for £22.95.
